Army of Sun masses on ISA border

'Regularly scheduled maneuvers'

AGUA PRIETA, MEXICO (RWN) - Three days after the Mexican chancellor announced that he would take back New Mexico and southwest Arizona by force, if necessary, three Mexican divisions have begun massing along America's southern border.

The Army of the Sun, the premier fighting force of the Mexican Empire, 30,000 strong and with top-of-the-line weaponry, began what the empire's government characterized as regularly scheduled maneuvers along the border with Arizona yesterday.

About 15,000 troops are already along the border for the exercises, with the remainder expected to join up in the next two days, said a source familiar with the situation.
Expected or not, the change in the Army of the Sun's posture has set off alarms throughout the southern tier of the Islamic States.

Alert levels have been raised in garrisons along the border, but the I.S. Army only has about 5,000 troops along that section of the border. The closest troops that could respond are in Utah, battling renegade Mormons.

"I do not know why the Mexican Empire is being so provocative," Arizona Gov. Khalid Mandrake said. "the last thing anyone wants is shooting war, and if these were regularly scheduled maneuvers, why didn't they tell us about them, as they have in the past."

Until Guzman's announcement three days ago, relations between the ISA and the Mexican Empire were showing improvement. A new trade agreement was inked last year, the countries opened additional consulates together and a technology exchange opened in San Diego.

"All of that progress has gone by the wayside," Mandrake said. "I've got a scared populace."

But a drive through Douglas, Ariz., near Agua Prieta, shows anything but a scared populace.

"Guzman come and get us," reads a sign hanging out of an apartment building window."

"Guzman, save our crosses," reads another sign draped over a bank.

Sandy Connor, a longtime Douglas resident and owner of a café in town, looked out at the American soldiers in the street and sighed.

"I think that we could really use a new government here," she said. "Our streets are trashed, we don't have much money here. We should at least be able to have our faith, and we really don't have much of that down here, either."
