Bible Belt VP: Christians have a duty to beat back Islam'Only traitors would accommodate'EVENING STAR, Ark. (RWN) -Bible Belt Vice President George Rogers told a crowd of supporters at a rally today that he believed it was the mission of "true and good Christians" to beat back the wave of Islam sweeping the world. Rogers was on a speech swing through the Bible Belt promoting President Michael Horton's new economic stimulus plan. But a heckler in the crowd took Rogers off his prepared speech. "How are we supposed to generate more money when everyone wants to trade with the ISA and not us?" yelled someone from the crowd, which was mostly rural and mostly poor. "I'll tell you how," Roger said, his voice rising. "We are a nation of true and good Christians, and it is the duty of each of us to take on this wave of Islam and beat it back. I would tell you that any man, woman or child who doesn't believe that - who doesn't hate the Islamists and what they've done to our nation - is a traitor not just to the Bible Belt but also to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ." The crowd cheered, and Rogers went on. "We stood idly by and watched as these people with their supposed holiness asked us to stamp our hands and kiss our cheeks," he said. "We watched thousands convert with the promise of sin - perfumed virgins in Heaven, hah! - and we did nothing. Oh, we fought, but we fought hard too late. We beat them off in Abilene and Nashville and New Orleans and Richmond. But we shouldn't have had to. We were so worried about being polite, so worried about 'doing right by our neighbors' and 'turning the other cheek' that we forgot that Christianity is worth fighting for. "I am here to tell you that we need to take up arms and take back the Midwest and Northwest and the Northeast and the Southwest and make this a great Christian nation again, the way it should be." Reaction from the Bible Belt Capital in Atlanta was swift. "That's George, going off the reservation again," said a senior administration official, speaking on the basis of anonymity. "Maybe that wound he took in the leg at Richmond is acting up again." The official reaction was a statement issued by Horton's office: "Vice President Rogers is a good man, committed to this nation. But he sometimes speaks a bit strongly. While preserving our Christian nation is the number one priority of this administration, we do not feel that anyone who chooses not to violently confront Muslims is a traitor."
