Technology Smuggling Ring Busted

MANHATTAN, Kan. (RWN) -- A technology smuggling ring headquartered in this university town has been broken up by State Security.

Nearly 20 people were arrested in a sting dubbed "Operation Gold Standard," which has been active for more than 18 months.

"This is a major breakthrough," said Kalil Sanders, State Security's regional security supervisor. "We've been tracking these scum for so long. They've left a trail of broken promises and broken legs behind them."

The group was headquartered in Manhattan and functioned as a legitimate import-export firm with companies in the Bible Belt. But behind the closed doors of Gonzalez Bros. Trading was a sophisticated technology-smuggling operation that brought in high-technology devices such as untraceable cell phones and GPS units.

"State Security got involved because we discovered that one of the items that was smuggled in was a masking technology for cars," Sanders said. "It's designed to keep the locations of cars private, and frankly, in our society, there's no need for the civilian populace to have that technology."

That discovery led to the operation, which involved police in seven states and closed one of the most prominent electronic stores in Boise.

"What we found that Kazaa Electronics in Boise was the main 'laundry room' for the money the operation was receiving," Sanders said. "it would be plowed back through the electronics store to be washed."

A lawyer for Juan Gonzalez issued a statement:
"Does it surprise anyone that the Gonzalez brothers are Catholics?" attorney Charlie McElroy said. "State Security won't tell you this, but they have been harassing the brothers for three years after Juan Gonzalez reported a State Security agent coming to him and asking for a bribe. I would tell you that justice will prevail, but in a legal system dominated by Islamists, I am not confident that it will."
